What we grow, and what it has to hit
Every crop we plant is grown against a written specification that a buyer has agreed to. The figures below are the targets our agronomy and store teams work to, and the five-year averages we have actually achieved on them.
- Cereals
- 6,100 ha
- Oilseeds
- 2,300 ha
- Root crops
- 3,000 ha
- 2025 harvest
- 94,300 t

| Crop | Area | Notes |
|---|---|---|
| Winter wheat | 4,100 ha | Milling and feed grades, drilled late Sept – mid Oct |
| Spring barley | 1,300 ha | Malting contracts, drilled from mid-March |
| Hybrid rye | 700 ha | Light land and feed contracts |

Grain
Cereals are the backbone of the rotation and the bulk of what we sell. Winter wheat takes the majority of the area, followed by malting spring barley and a block of hybrid rye on the lightest ground where wheat cannot be justified.
Quality specification
- Milling wheat protein
- ≥ 12.5%
- Hagberg falling number
- ≥ 220 s
- Specific weight
- ≥ 76 kg/hl
- Moisture at despatch
- ≤ 14.0%
- Malting barley N
- ≤ 1.85%
- Germination
- ≥ 96%

| Crop | Area | Notes |
|---|---|---|
| Hybrid winter OSR | 2,050 ha | Pod shatter resistant, TuYV tolerant |
| Conventional OSR | 250 ha | Retained on trial blocks for cost comparison |
Oilseeds · 2,300 ha
Winter rapeseed
Rapeseed is the break crop that pays. Drilled from mid-August straight behind the barley, established with a low-disturbance tine drill to keep what moisture August leaves us, and taken to harvest with a strict flowering-period fungicide and pollinator plan.
Quality specification
- Oil content
- 43–45%
- Moisture at despatch
- ≤ 9.0%
- Impurities
- ≤ 2.0%
- Erucic acid
- ≤ 2.0%
- Glucosinolates
- ≤ 18 µmol/g
- 5-yr average yield
- 4.1 t/ha

| Crop | Area | Notes |
|---|---|---|
| Sugar beet | 2,100 ha | Contracted campaign, lifted late Sept – Dec |
| Ware potatoes | 900 ha | Washing and packing varieties, lifted Sept – Oct |
Root crops · 3,000 ha
Sugar beet & ware potatoes
Roots go on the deep alluvial ground within reach of the river, where the soil lifts cleanly and travels well. Beet is grown on contract with the regional sugar plant; ware potatoes are graded, boxed and supplied to retail packers through the winter from ventilated cold store.
Quality specification
- Beet 5-yr average
- 68 t/ha
- Sugar content
- 17.2% avg
- Beet soil tare
- ≤ 8%
- Potato 5-yr average
- 46 t/ha
- Ware size grading

The year
Production calendar
Field work runs continuously from August drilling to the following August harvest. There is no quiet season, only a difference in what is urgent.
Aug
Rapeseed drilling, cereal harvest continues
Sep–Oct
Winter cereal drilling, potato and early beet lifting
Nov–Feb
Beet campaign deliveries, maintenance, soil sampling
Mar–Apr
Spring barley drilling, first nitrogen, T0 fungicides
May–Jun
Flowering sprays, tissue testing, irrigation on roots
Jul–Aug
Barley, rapeseed and wheat harvest; intake and drying
Assurance
Certified, sampled, traceable
Buyers who audit us find the same records we use ourselves. Nothing is kept for the auditor alone.
GLOBALG.A.P.
Certified for combinable crops and ware potatoes, audited annually.
QMS / GMP+
Feed and food safety scheme compliance across intake and storage.
Retained samples
Every intake and despatch lot sampled and held for 12 months.
Field-to-load traceability
Any delivery traceable to block, drilling date and application record.
